St Cecilias Hall, Edinburgh

Client Brief

The University of Edinburgh tasked Luma with developing an interactive mobile application for visitors to St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest purpose-built concert hall. The aim was to enhance the visitor experience without detracting from the magnificent collection of musical instruments on display. They sought a solution that allowed visitors to engage with each instrument in a deeper way and provided access to historical information and audio examples of the instruments being played.

The app also needed to offer a virtual tour option, allowing potential visitors to explore St Cecilia’s Hall remotely and encouraging repeat visits and word-of-mouth promotion.

Luma Approach

Luma's approach focused on creating an intuitive and engaging mobile application that seamlessly integrated with the physical environment of St Cecilia’s Hall. We leveraged our expertise in interactive design, user experience (UX) and app development to deliver a bespoke solution tailored to the museum’s specific needs.

Our team worked closely with the University of Edinburgh to understand their vision for the app and ensure it aligned perfectly with the existing collection and museum narrative. This collaborative process resulted in an application that was both informative and enjoyable to use.
