George Street, Edinburgh

Client Brief

City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) were seeking a creative method to involve the Public in its proposed renovation of historic George Street, which is located in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After discussions with the CEC and Design Team, we were appointed to create a comprehensive virtual model that showcased the design of the proposed streetscape.

Through this model, we were able to  generate a diverse range of visuals, animations, and interactive experiences designed to facilitate public involvement with this culturally significant site.

Embedded Interactive

Luma Approach

We carried out an extensive photographic study of George Street and constructed a comprehensive photo-realistic model of all buildings. We also generated detailed photogrammetry models of notable features, sculptures and statues.

Throughout the project, we worked closely with the Design Team, presenting and refining various design options for Client approval. Once the design was finalised, we seamlessly integrated the new proposed streetscape into our photo-realistic model.

As development progressed, we added animated elements such as people, vehicles, and environmental effects to produce a series of detailed visuals and engaging animations. Additionally, we designed an interactive web-based platform to allow the public to explore George Street from end-to-end, learning about its key features and enhancements.

Delivery

The Client was delighted with the immediate and overwhelmingly positive response from the Public, reflecting the quality of the content and its clear and straightforward communication of the Council's vision to create a place that everyone can enjoy and benefit from, as well as support efforts to become net zero carbon by 2030 and contribute to the city's economic recovery.
