V&A Dundee
‘Stories from the Building’
Client Brief
V&A Dundee, Scotland's Design Museum, commissioned this project to commemorate its fifth anniversary. The primary objective was to showcase the museum's groundbreaking engineering design and highlight the expertise involved in its construction.
To achieve this, a compelling and engaging narrative experience was required that effectively explains the innovative and complex stages of the museum's development. The target audience encompasses a broad spectrum, from children to construction professionals.
The 'Stories from the Building' display is a permanent display, located in the museum’s main Locke Hall. Featuring multiple displays that are brought together to create an engaging visual and audio experience that captivates visitors and guides them through the complex design concepts and construction phases.
Luma Approach
The project involved a two-pronged approach: visual design and animated explainer sequences. We began by crafting a visually appealing graphic design that adhered to the V&A Dundee established guidelines.
Leveraging our expertise in architecture and the construction industry, we then developed a series of detailed, step-by-step animated sequences. Each animation was designed to simplify and communicate the complex engineering, ensuring clarity and engagement while guiding the viewer through the processes involved in the construction of V&A Dundee.
Delivery
As a key component of the Locke Hall welcome area, our construction sequences have garnered significant attention from visitors. Currently featured as part of a comprehensive exhibit at the V&A Museum of Design in Dundee, this display showcases the latest developments in construction and design.
